Vist Robert Castellani's Profile

Robert Castellani Feat. Anna Pancaldi - April Concert Series

Robert Castellani has been described as ‘one of the country’s best young guitarists’. In 2003 he gained the runner-up spot in the prestigious ‘Guitarist of the Year’ competition run by Guitarist Magazine. Aged only 16 at the time, it made him the youngest ever finalist and quickly gave him a prominent place on the national music scene.

Although initially an electric guitarist and credited for his work with local Rock and Blues bands, Robert has achieved great recognition for his acoustic guitar work. With influences from artists such as Irish guitarist Eric Roche, Robert uses techniques including altered tunings, two handed tapping and using the body of the guitar for percussion accompaniment, the combination of which creates an amazing spectacle at his shows and creates sounds never thought possible from his instrument.
Robert has enchanted audiences with his stunning sound at several theatres, open-air festivals and supported artists like ‘The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain’, guitarist Buddy Whittington (John Mayall) and fellow acoustic virtuoso Thomas Leeb as well as recieving over a quarter of a million veiws on YouTube.

Robert has gained the support of music companies Roland UK and Elixir Strings, both of which are his primary sponsors.

Aside from his solo work, Robert also works with vocalist Anna Pancaldi who has what has been described as ‘a stunning, soulful voice’. Anna comes from a jazz and soul background and is highly sought after as a live performer and session musician. Her time spent living between South Africa and England has given her diversity and experience beyond her years.

Their original music simply defies genre, but draws from folk, blues and soul and credits artists like Jeff Buckley and Nick Drake amongst their inspirations. Together they have a totally unique sound and have been featured artists on BBC Radio Suffolk as well as winners of Battle of the Bands competitions in Suffolk.

Robert Castellani is signed to the Ambiel music label along with Anna Pancaldi as the Castellani Acoustic Group where they are releasing their first EP entitled ‘Covers’. It features five tracks penned by artists such as Nina Simone and Ben Harper and will be available at gigs and from the Ambiel website www.ambielmusic.com.

Robert is also working on a solo release featuring his original guitar works due to be released in June before a further disc with Anna commences towards the Autumn.

During April, the duo will play three concerts featuring Robert’s acoustic guitar pieces, original vocal songs as well as new arrangements of pieces by JS Bach. The first concert takes place on the 9th at The Headgate Theatre in Colchester followed by the 16th at St. Peter’s Church in Ipswich and finishing on the 22nd at Butley Priory near Woodbridge. All shows start at 7:30pm with admission at £8 and £6 concessions. More information is available from the venue or contact via www.robertcastellani.com.
