Not long now until Latitude Festival opens its flower studded gates in Suffolk’s Henham Park. This year celebrating its fifth birthday the folks at Latitude decided to interview many of the artists playing; the questions posed all relating to the number 5. (See what they did there.)
Latitude Festival is a long standing supporter of local artists and this year BBC Introducing will be taking over the Lake Stage and showcasing some of the best new music to come out of Suffolk including Cevanne and The Cads and These Ghosts (previously Vanilla Kick featured in issue 28 of IP1 magazine).
These guys were interviewed as part of the fifth birthday celebrations and here are their answers to the following questions:
1. When you think of Latitude what 5 words spring to mind?
2. If you could only see one performance at this year’s festival what would it be?
3. What 5 items will you be bringing to Latitude?
4. Do you have anything special planed for your performance at Latitude?
5. Latitude is 5 years old, how did you celebrate your fifth birthday?
The Cads, James, The Lake Stage - Ipswich
1. Sun, Paint, Sheep, Lanterns, hot girls in wellington boots!
2. Egyptian HipHop.
3. Paint, Dressing gown, Fresh Undies, Aviators, Toothbrush.
4. The Swan’s/Gun show. (Could you direct me to the nearest vet’s cos’ these swan’s are SICK!) *Flex’s Arms*
5. Bouncy castle is surely standard? I hope there’s a bouncy castle at Latitude.
Cevanne - Aldeburgh-Thorpeness-Leiston-Ipswich area - Lake stage
1.New. Local. My First Festival.
2. Rodrigo y Gabriella
3. harp. water. brain. phone. camcorder, if I’m allowed!
4. It’ll be the premiere of my Big Ears album! Whirling-dervish spins if there’s room on stage.
5. I think I dressed as a unicorn.
These Ghosts, Harry - Attleborough, Rickinghall & Eye, Norfolk/Suffolk - Lake Stage
1. Colourful sheep and excellent music.
2. Ideally everyone would get together and do one massive collaboration on the Obelisk. Failing that, I’ll settle for Jonsi.
3. Our Mum’s, Swing-ball, Sweet Chilli dipping sauce, Generic wide brimmed straw hat and Pimms
4. The Latitude weekend ties in very nicely with the release of our debut album, so we’ll be playing stuff off that. Some people wont have heard the newer material, some people wont have even heard us. That’s an exciting thought.
5. I can barely remember although I’ve been informed that it involved an army/camouflage dress code, a magician that made a girl cry and a huge release of helium balloons. I do actually remember being really happy that i’d made it halfway to double figures.
If you’re going to Latitude this year make sure you support this lot, head down to the Lake Stage and be amazed by the talent that comes right outta Suffolk!
