Even More · Shuffle It Right · Movements From Petrushka
‘Even More is driven by the sharp contrasts of Prokofiev’s brilliant sixth Piano Sonata. Terse anger melts suddenly into a sweet lyricism. ‘This powerful piece threatens to burst through the confines of the stage’ The Guardian.
Shuffle It Right is a light and good humoured piece syncopating to the jazzy songs of Hoagy Carmichael, including Riverboat Shuffle, Ol’ Man Harlem and, of course, Star Dust. ‘Sent me home insanely happy’ The New York Times.
Movements From Petrushka reworks images from Stravinsky’s ballet Petrushka, and is revived to mark the recent centenary of Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes. ‘You only have to watch two minutes of Petrushka to see Alston’s on a winning streak’ The Guardian.
