The Rebel Cell

MULTI-AWARD-WINNING HIP HOP THEATRE THE REBEL CELL STARRING BABA BRINKMAN AND DIZRAELI

‘8 Mile meets 1984’
Edinburgh Fringe Winner   **** 4 STARS

From the producers of the West End Smash Hit ‘Into the Hoods’ and the critically acclaimed theatre company Giddy Ox the multi-award winning show The Rebel Cell comes to the New Wolsey 2nd-3rd November at 7.45pm.
It’s England 2015 and free speech and civil liberties are a thing of the past. The leader of the revolution has been captured by the state police and a thrilling lyrical battle pits the freedom fighter against his old friend - now a journalist assigned to interview him - who questions the integrity of the revolution. The two men lock horns in a daring battle of wits and world-views. Using multi-media projections, real-time camera work, a live scratch DJ and a lyrical hip hop battle the audience is taken back to 2010 to reveal their turbulent history.

Since 2004 Baba Brinkman has toured his award-winning hip-hop theatre show, “The Rap Canterbury Tales”, to dozens of cities around the world. Baba joined forces with UK BBC Slam Champion MC Dizraeli to form the hip-hop group Mud Sun, and they co-wrote and released two albums. Baba recently released his fifth solo album “Apocalyptic Utopian Dreams in the Western Wilderness” http://www.babasword.com.

Dizraeli is a rapper, writer, poet and singer with the band Dizraeli and the Small Gods who have been nominated for a UK Festivals Award! He is the 2006/7 Farrago UK Slam Poetry Champion and also a Radio 4 Poetry Slam winner. Dizraeli has a new single out – ‘Bomb Tesco’ and his debut solo album ‘Engurland (City Shanties)’ is on release from http://www.dizraeli.com .
