Tod Machover (guitar hero fame) is a musical phenomenon. Professor of Music and Media at MIT in Boston, he has composed for Yo-Yo Ma and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, as well as designed unique hyper-instruments and interactive performance systems used by Peter Gabriel and Prince. His Spheres and Splinters refers to the shapes of sound that the artist will surround the audience with. A state-of-the-art ambisonic sound system brought specially from MIT will combine with ‘sound-splinters’ taken from the cello and other sources, and fragment the material in sophisticated and thrilling ways.
A unique exploration of the natural acoustic properties 15 of instruments and of electronics, by one of the leading cutting-edge composers of our time, supported by United Visual Artists, a British-based collective whose installations have stunned audiences of Teatro Sociale di Como and New York Fashion Week alike. In the first part of the evening, a view inside the powerhouse: six composers and a small group of instrumentalists on the New Music New Media course, tutored by Milton Mermekides, offer a snapshot of the latest multi-media and electroacoustic work.
There will be a Pre-event talk with the artists in the Jerwood Kiln Studio, Snape at 6pm. Admission free, but please book.
