Family Tree

Using an Ordinance Survey map of Ipswich, I pushed drawing pins into the house holds of every immediate family member who lives in the area. Every family member was included, I even worked up how far away an aunt in Creeting St Peter lived, and extended the map with cardboard to include her house hold. I then connected each drawing pin with cotton to each other drawing pin, to get a criss cross of cotton over the map. Then, using a pencil, I marked small x’s where the cotton intersected cycled to each location and picking up an object from the floor. I created a still life from my findings, resulting in a photograph of meaningless objects made meaningful.
