REVIEW: The Importance of Being Earnest, Christchurch Park, Ipswich, June 27, 2012!

A picnic, fizzy wine and a fake posh accent is the perfect setting for The Importance of Being Earnest in Christchurch Park. The acting is over the top – but in the right way - the audience is jovial and the performance is tight, well-rehearsed and perfect for a carefree summer evening.

Having never understood the play in my former years, I now understand the trivial, lighthearted and gossiping humour. It’s genuinely funny, well-timed and the fizzy wine is helping the enjoyment factor, but that’s kind of the point of open-air theatre…

I’m now considering creating an alias in the county called Midget. If you’re invited to a party where the host goes by that name, beware!

The second act is more farcical than the first but I’m still keeping up. Then wigs and fake beards start to steal the show - amazing! And we’ve decimated our picnic. Brilliant!

And being tipsy on a Wednesday definitely has its perks.

All in all I can advise that during this changeable weather you do the following:

Buy a haaandbag! And go to lots of Ip-art events.
