Profile
During early 2008 I became interested in the idea of photography, largely due to its accessibility to someone with no traditional artistic talents (e.g. drawing, painting).
I subsequently started playing with our digital Kodak point and shoot, attempting to establish what made a good picture and what I liked in an image.
During the 2008 Ip Art I started seeing and reading about Lomography. At first the idea of imperfect, flawed images was one I couldn’t understand, but after searching the internet and seeing what people were achieving I was keen to join them. I liked that it was an inexpensive way into medium format photography, and I was keen to experiment with multiple and long exposures; I have always been fascinated by the effects of long exposures on moving water and lights.
I bought myself a Holga 120N, tripod and remote shutter release cable, and I started taking pictures.
It’s interesting to discover which subjects I most enjoy, and I’ve found I look at the town around me in much more detail; always looking for a potential photograph. I find the best teaching aid is other people’s work, identifying what makes an image interesting and how a particular shot has been taken; often asking myself ‘would I have recognised the potential in that picture, or used that angle/composition which makes it work?’. It is also important to always be ready with a camera as you never know when a good image will pass you by, a rule I still continue to break ...
I am a former Exposure Gallery Member of the Month and my Scooters picture was used in printed advertising. More of my work can be seen here: http://flickr.com/photos/michaelgmorrow
