UCS
Profile
University Campus Suffolk (UCS) is an educational institution located in the county of Suffolk where it welcomed its first students in September 2007.
UCS is collaboration between its parent universities, the University of Essex and the University of East Anglia, its partner colleges and local government.
With a distinctive blend of modern towns, old villages and hamlets, ancient castles and churches, Suffolk is one of the most diverse and glorious places in which to learn.
Students are based across the six UCS centres at:
Ipswich (The Hub)
Bury St Edmunds
Great Yarmouth
Lowestoft
Otley
Suffolk New College
Campus developments are planned over the next five years across all the centres, with the first phase of the University Quay site in Ipswich set to be completed by January 2011.
University Quay is located on the Ipswich Waterfront, a short walk from the landmark Waterfront building which opened in 2008. University Quay combines teaching, social and living space, allowing students to experience a campus environment, with the convenience of being located in the centre of a bustling town.
Students will learn in clinical skills facilities, biomechanics and physiology laboratories, including a specialised blood working area, microbiology and analytical laboratories and an iLab. The building offers open study space, computer equipment, and extensive flexible learning and exhibition space.
University Quay will house a cafĂ©/bar which will be operated by UCS Students’ Union.
The student accommodation at University Quay is the first purpose built accommodation on UCS land. The building has 600 study bedrooms and social space for students.
Future modules of the academic building will include an extensive library and learning resources centre.
UCS Ipswich is split into four schools, offering courses in:
Arts and Humanities
Health, Science and Social Care
Nursing Midwifery and Interprofessional Studies
Social Science and Business
UCS offers a range of foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and encourages anyone interested in UCS to visit the campus at one of the open days or simply drop-in anytime for a look around.
