Ten City Nation

Profile

Formed in their sleepy UK hometown of Bury St Edmunds in 2007, Ten City Nation wasted no time in gigging like madmen – by November of that year, they were supporting NME darlings We Start Fires on a UK tour. A sold-out single launch party at London’s Islington Bar Academy in January 2008 led to high-profile supports for Artrocker favourites Untitled Musical Project and Popular Workshop, which in turn led to an appearance at the Offset Festival alongside Wire, Future Of The Left and Blood Red Shoes. In May 2008, Ten City Nation’s self-titled, self-released debut album won the affections of BBC Radio Suffolk, who put the band forward to represent the station at that year’s Reading & Leeds Festivals. The band also helped put together (and appeared on) a compilation in aid of Love Music Hate Racism, and embarked on a Summer 2008 Love Music Hate Racism tour with Popular Workshop, Nebraska, Kunk and hotly-tipped fellow Bury boys Thee Vicars. A song from the debut album, ‘TDK 90’, is featured in the forthcoming new Suicide Girls movie.

A critically-acclaimed sophomore album, ‘At The Still Point’, was recorded and mixed over 3 days on a Suffolk farm by Sam Marsh (formerly of early 90’s John Peel favourites Jacob’s Mouse). On release in August 2009, it shot straight to #49 in Tower Records USA’s Alternative Top 100. Two songs from the album, ‘Silent Disco’ and ‘Flashing Lights’ were released as a 7” double A-side through legendary DIY label R*E*P*E*A*T; XFM’s John Kennedy championed ‘Flashing Lights’ on his show and the single was launched with a packed-out Club Fandango show at Camden’s Dublin Castle. 2009 also saw Ten City Nation continue playing festivals, all-dayers and yet more supports to future rock heroes including Ipso Facto and Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring, rounding off the gigging year with a headline show at the Cambridge Junction.

Ten City Nation have been confirmed to appear at London’s City Showcase in May 2010 and are currently working on their third album, due for release in mid-to-late Summer, with tours pending in the UK, Germany and Japan.

‘At The Still Point’ is out now on the band’s own Sturm Und Drang Recordings. The entire Ten City Nation back catalogue can be downloaded free of charge from the band’s website: http://www.tencitynation.com
