Apples & Snakes, England’s leading organisation for performance poetry requires a Programme Coordinator - East to further develop the establishment of a national network for performance poetry - delivering a busy programme of events, educational outreach and artist development.

They are looking for someone who is passionate about the arts with an interest in literature and has the ability to work on their own initiative.

Job Description: East Programme Coordinator

Responsible to the Programme Manager.

Primary duty:
To act as an ambassador for performance poets and poetry in the East, including developing poets’ skills and stimulating new opportunities.

ARTIST DEVELOPMENT

·    To develop emerging poets through a programme of seeing work nationally and building connections with key local stakeholders.

·    Arrange and manage professional development activity for artists in consultation with and as agreed with the Programme Manager.

·    To provide networking career professional development advice to Live Literature artists

NETWORKING

·    To act as an ambassador for Apples & Snakes, representing the organisation to artists, public and stakeholders.

·    To attend other performances, be aware of new poets and link them with the organisation.

·    To build, plan and enable networks in the East.

·    To attend specific events where you will be expected to articulate Apples & Snakes’ mission, vision and core values

·    To collaborate with Writers’ Centre Norwich and its work in Live Literature and its development.

PROGRAMMING

·    To run regular events working to agreed budgets

·    To develop partnerships with organisations who can contribute to the programme

·    To monitor, evaluate and report on performance poetry activity in the East.

EDUCATION

·      To identify artists in the East who could contribute to Apples & Snakes’ general education programme.

·      To liaise with the Education Officer information about PIES bookings in the East

·    To programme a series of professional development classes (ESCAPE) which develop artists skills working in education in collaboration with the Education Team

·    To manage participatory projects within the region

·    To support Apples & Snakes national participatory projects within the region, as required.

MARKETING

With the support of the Apples & Snakes Marketing team:

·    To research and write a monthly e-newsletter for the East highlighting performance poets and poetry within the region.

·    To produce print and other publicity materials within supplied guidelines, to budget and to agreed deadlines.

·    To arrange for local distribution of print for all events

·    To promote Apples & Snakes work to local East press and other local stakeholders

·    To provide Apples & Snakes’ marketing department, and other organisations where appropriate, with all information necessary to promote the programme.

WEBSITE

·    To write content for the Apples & Snakes website as requested

·    To create and update records on the online database for relevant East poets, including contact details, biography and digital photograph.

AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT

·    To work with the organisation on new initiatives to develop audiences for performance poetry

·    To undertake audience surveys at local Apples & Snakes events and supply this information to the marketing department

·    To liaise with the marketing department on any national press possibilities from within your area.

FUNDRAISING

·    To research and develop links to help find new sources of funding in the East

·    To submit funding requests with the guidance of the General Manager.

ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE

·    In collaboration with the Programming and General Managers to create an accurate and realistic annual work plan and budget for the East.

·    To be responsible for managing the agreed budget for the East ensuring that overall annual expenditure targets are not exceeded.

·    To prepare financial and written reports as required

·    To maintain contact information on all East stakeholders to be shared with the organisation via the online contact management system.

·    To deal with all incoming mail and phone enquiries relating to the East.

GENERAL DUTIES

·    To attend all staff meetings as required

·    To undertake training as required

·    To participate in process of continuous evaluation of organisation’s effectiveness in fulfilling its aims and objectives

·    To ensure legacy of knowledge by appropriate filing, archiving, record-keeping and reporting

·    To comply in all areas of work with Apples & Snakes’ Equal Opportunities Policy

·    To carry out such other reasonable duties as may be required

·    To promote, participate in and contribute in all reasonable ways to the overall aims and objectives of Apples & Snakes


Job Specification: East Coordinator

·    Experience of working with artists, promoters or venues

·    Experience of planning and organising arts activity or networks

·    Excellent range of contacts across the East

·    Understanding of strategy and ability to apply it to the role

·    Excellent communication skills

·    Commitment to equal opportunities

Salary and conditions

Pay: £21,990 pro rata.  Subject to annual review.

Part time post 21 hours per week at three days per week

Core working hours 10am – 6pm

Office based at Norwich

Post subject to a 6-month probationary period

30 days annual holiday pro rata
