A modest pub in Ipswich may not initially appear to be the place to go to enjoy internationally acclaimed talent, but The Swan somehow manages it! As a hip hop aficionado I was very excited at hearing that the group spearheading the show, Tanya Morgan, had earned themselves Native Tongues comparisons. The event was at brimming capacity early, and the night was expertly opened by the lyrically intricate, homegrown group 3rdi. Next was The Bodega Brovas, who provided an extremely fluid and interactive performance even giving the crowd a lesson in hip hop microphone control. Tanya Morgan polished the night off nicely with hypnotic soul and jazz sampled beats that sparked infectious head bobbing, combined with funny and intelligent lyrics. This was a show not to be missed, and truly was a night for hip hop purists. MG
