The Swan delivers great music once again…......

“We could get on it like sonic” has been going through my head and humming on my lips since Thursday night and its all down to the Phantom Players! Rambling to the good old Swan for a beverage or two, I and my comrade found a very upbeat, quirky band playing. If you get a chance to, go and see these guys play- not only is their music full of quirky little lines but it will 100% get you bobbing your head, tapping your feet and your body wanting to move. The band themselves were jigging all over the floor and the drummer (very talented young man) had so much energy he lost/threw one of his sticks half way through the set. Usually I try and find influences in bands to explain them but I don’t want to do that with this band. On their myspace page they describe music they like as the following;
“We worship Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix, whilst respecting The Rolling Stones, Beatles and Bob Dylan, following Libertines, Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes, and listening all the time to, Justice, Daft Punk and Digitalsm, thinking that High Contrast, Stanton Warriors and Evil Nine are the bollox, and that James Brown, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder are the masters…” Need we say anymore? Phantom Players, worth a watch and a listen 
To follow on from this musical gem we’d found, Norwich’s own, The Barlights, started playing with an equally grand set! I personally didn’t see the damage with telling the audience they were from Norwich where plenty of awesome bands grow from (not to mention quirky bars.) “Good Nights Sleep” was a winner for the audience, as was the in between song talk, or rather, lack of it. Parts of the song were exceedingly “foot-tapping” and made me think it should be on an advert for The In-betweeners or something.
I urge people to listen to these two local bands and appreciate the musical talent that we have to offer! Thank the lord for the Swan and good music!
