The 4th Southwold Concert Series

Vist Southwold Concert Series's Profile

The 4th Southwold Concert Series

The Southwold Concert Series opens its fourth season with a concert by The Park Quartet on Saturday 22nd September in St Edmund’s Church.

Founded in 2009 by undergraduates at the Royal College of Music, the Park Quartet has performed at venues including the Wigmore hall, Queen’s Gate Terrace, ‘Les Balades Musicales’ festival in France, and the EU Society’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. They will present a diverse programme, including of a light-hearted Haydn work, Dvorak’s famous ‘American’ Quartet, and the influential but rarely heard Fifth Quartet by Elizabeth Maconchy, one of Vaughan Williams’ most brilliant pupils.

Southwold-based composer and pianist Nathan Williamson founded the Concert Series in 2008, since when its reputation has quickly grown as both internationally renowned musicians and exciting rising stars have come to perform in Southwold. Audiences are growing as word spreads about the high quality of the music and the friendly and informal atmosphere of the concerts.

The new season contains seven concerts between September 2012 and May 2013, including performances by the acclaimed Lawson Trio and cellist Alexander Somov, as well as the young violinist Anna Cashell and pianist Simon Waterton. There will be two festive events in early December, centered around the ‘Switch on Southwold’ celebrations. A concert of medieval, Elizabethan and baroque music by The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments will provide a fascinating finale to the season.
