Vist M Catling's Profile

P-FUNK HALLOWDELICA (FREE ENTRY) @ PUMP & GRIND SAT 31st OCT

P-Funk Hallowdelica has finally gone into orbit!

We will be screening the 1976 concert of the Mothership Connection which was performed in Houston on Halloween Night which seems even more appropriate for us to show it to you all. This concert was ground-breaking. They received $275,000 to produce a show that would excite the imagination. This was the highest budget ever given to a black music act during the 1970’s.

The collective came together to bring life into their concepts that were first perceived in the audible hieroglyphics of their albums. They built a spaceship that would become the centrepiece to their performances. The stage was illuminated with lights, pyrotechnics, smoke and visuals that came straight from the brain of starchild George Clinton. Nobody had seen a show like it, for everybody that was there awaiting in the crowd, they witnessed a performance that would cement its place in history for decades to come.

They were revolutionary as image-breakers, they expressed themselves freely and allowed their sound to become the voice of a underground movement in America. Soon enough, it was heard from above and they have become one of the global grandmasters of the Funk.

Come and join us in celebrating the discography of this collective and what comes between them in terms of influences and samples. From Sly & the Family Stone, Ohio Players, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd to De La Soul, Prince, Gorillaz, Massive Attack, Snoop Dogg, N.W.A, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, EPMD, Ice Cube, Eric B & Rakim, Outkast and D’Angelo, the list is endless… Parliament Funkadelic have been sampled over 1332 times and the number still rises!

It’s going to be difficult trying to put something down that represents everything they are about but don’t worry we are in very safe hands! We have 4 master selectors present who all aim to make you dance through to the next dimension.

OUR TURNTABLISTS:

DJ PALMA
JIMMY GREEN
RICKY WHEELER
MUDDLE

We will also be joined by a troupe of African dancers who will be keeping up the tempo and making sure the floor is continuously flowing with body movers of all shapes & sizes.

Come prepared. Dress up, the crazier the better!

Pump & Grind will officially be transformed with lights, psychedelic decor, smoke machines, projector visuals and artwork this Halloween. We have plenty more surprises to come! Keep in the loop & spread the word, let’s aim to make Ipswich permanently funky. X
